1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cut Tris Speaker (Fielding)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00, Sold For - $4,700.00
Extremely rare E125 American Caramel Die-cut of Hall of Famer Tris Speaker of the Boston Red Sox in a fielding pose. According to our research, this is one of only three fielding pose cards of Speaker known to exist. (Speaker is also known in a batting pose.) Issued by the American Caramel Co. circa 1910, the E125 set of die-cuts is so rare that it was not even known to exist until the 1960s. They were issued one card per box of caramels, and vary slightly in size from card to card, depending on the player’s pose. The cards are designed with small moving parts, which fold back to allow players to stand. Most are approximately seven inches high and four inches wide. The Red Sox are one of four teams featured in the set, and because of their bright red accents, are particularly striking for display. This is an extraordinary example of one of the few Hall of Famers and the key Red Sox star of the set. Bright and clean, with a crease at the neck , the wrist, and a third small crease at his left foot (the crease on the wrist and foot are each reinforced with a small piece of clear tape on the reverse, and for this reason has been encapsulated by SGC as "Authentic"), otherwise in Excellent condition. E125s have always been held in the highest esteem by advanced collectors both for their extreme rarity, as well as for their very striking and unique design. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+.
