1910 E125 American Caramel Die-cut Christy Mathewson
Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $5,875.00
Exceptionally rare E125 American Caramel Die-cut of Hall of Fame pitcher Christy Mathewson of the New York Giants. Exactly three E125 Mathewsons are known to exist. The first example, discovered many years ago, was missing the tabs which allow the card to stand. Many years ago a collection of fifteen E125s surfaced in the hobby which included two additional Mathewson examples. Both of these Mathewsons had the two side tabs present, but detached. This is one of those two. When the tabs are properly placed, the card displays beautifully as a complete card which appears Excellent, but is technically Vg-Ex due to several tiny surface creases (which are so light they are only detectable from the reverse). If desired, the tabs could be reattached professionally with adhesive. The reverse, with advertisement and checklist, is also bright and clean. This is one of the rarest of all E125s and all Mathewson cards. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
