1911 T205 Gold Borders Christy Mathewson SGC NM+ 86
Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $10,575.00
Graded NM+ 86 by SGC. Absolutely stunning, unbelievably high-grade Christy Mathewson card from the T205 Gold Borders, one of the most popular of all 1910-era tobacco issues. This is a simply extraordinary example of one of tobacco-card collecting's great classics. It is also without question the finest T205 Mathewson that Robert Edward Auctions has ever offered. This card is a traffic-stopper. It is impossible to look at this gem without saying "Wow." Any T205 Gold Border in this extraordinary condition would be incredible, let alone Christy Mathewson. The card displays only the slightest hint of white at the extreme tips of only two corners, visible only under the closest inspection, and the most minute hint of chipping (even harder to see) to the gold near the center of the extreme edge of the top border; otherwise the easily-chipped gold borders are without any white showing whatsoever. Centered 45/55 left to right and 60/40 top to bottom, this striking gem has flawless colors and perfect registration. The reverse of the card is exceptionally bright and clean with crisp, bold red text. Advertising for Sweet Caporal on reverse. This is an amazing high-grade T205 example of Christy Mathewson, one of baseball's greatest legends, from one of collecting's most classic and condition-sensitive sets. The SMR value for a PSA NM 7 is $7,000. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$7,000+. SOLD FOR $10,575.00
