1911 T205 Gold Borders Moran and Gray Rarities PSA Collection (2)

Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $1,880.00

Offered are two exceedingly scarce medium-grade back-variation rarities from the popular 1911 T205 Gold Border series: 1) "Stray Line of Type" variation of P. J. Moran, Phillies (SGC VG 40, Polar Bear back). This card was issued with and without a "stray line of type" on the reverse. This variation, with stray line, is easily one of the rarest of all T205 Gold Borders (along with Hoblitzell “no stats” on back variation). The card is a solid Vg example, with evenly rounded corners, a deep red background that contrasts sharply against the gold borders, and a few tiny creases in the gold borders, which have no impact on the image area. The borders are particularly large on this card, which is centered very slightly to the right. A solid mid-grade example of this extreme rarity, which is on just about every master T205 set builder’s want list. 2) "Stats on Back" variation of Dolly Gray, Washington (PSA EX 5). This card was issued with and without Gray's 1910 statistics on reverse. This variation, with stats, is by far the rarer of the two, and one of the rarest of all T205 Gold Borders. The card is centered high (approximately 25/75 T/B), with bright, crisp colors, square corners with hints of white at the extreme tips, and virtually no chipping to the condition-sensitive gold borders. The back is off-center, with practically no top border and 70/30 left to right. There appears to be no formal consensus of value in guides on these T205 variation rarities. We have estimated the cards very conservatively and are confident the auction process will provide clarity with reference to value. Total 2 cards. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
