1916 E135 Collins-McCarthy #30 Ty Cobb

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,880.00

Graded VG 40 by SGC. Presented is a very attractive mid-grade example of one of Ty Cobb's most distinctive cards. 1916 Collins-McCarthy candy cards are rare, and are one of the few major card issues dating from the mid-teens. Collins-McCarthy are far rarer than the somewhat similar in design M101-4/5 Sporting News cards. E135 Collins-McCarthy cards, however, were never issued as complete sets to the public. They are usually encountered only in small groups and are usually in low grade. They were also produced on a slightly thinner stock (compared to M101-4/5) that is far more susceptible to wear, and with a very glossy surface which is very prone to creasing. The image on this card is a unique batting pose of Cobb which appears only in the Collins-McCarthy set (and related issues). The offered card is bright and clean, both front and back, with even corner wear, a crease in the middle of the right edge, and centered slightly to the left. This is a very attractive example of one of Ty Cobb's most elusive cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $1,880.00
