1921 W516-2 #5 Ty Cobb PSA NM-MT 8
Starting Bid - $300.00, Sold For - $528.75
Graded NM-MT 8 by PSA. Highest-graded example! Stunning high-grade example of Hall of Famer Ty Cobb, one of the key cards from the 1921 W516-2 "Strip Card" set. PSA rarely assigns a numerical grade to strip cards but this gem is an exception. The early 1920s presented few baseball card sets for youngsters to collect, and strip cards were both the most prominent and most affordable cards of the era. These small, primitively designed cards measure 1.5 x 2.25 inches. Cobb is featured in full uniform in a fielding pose. In 1921 Cobb stepped up to the plate 507 times and batted an extraordinary .389, second only to Harry Heilmann (.394 average). The offered card is extremely bright and clean, both front and back, with four sharp corners, vibrant orange background, and is centered 40/60 top to bottom. This is a very sharp high-grade example of Ty Cobb dating from one of his greatest hitting seasons. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $528.75
