1933 R319 Goudey #144 Babe Ruth

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,232.50

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. A very attractive example of the ideal classic Babe Ruth bubble-gum card, featuring the Babe in his classic follow-through batting pose. Goudey must have also realized this was the most classic pose as, of all the cards in the set, this is the card they chose to double print when replacing the missing card #106 during production. This continues to be one of Ruth's most popular and recognizable baseball cards. Because of being double-printed by Goudey (there were exactly twice as many Ruth #144s printed as any other card in the same series), this card also represents the best value among the four Babe Ruth cards in the 1933 Goudey set. This is a very attractive example with brilliant colors and no creases. Centered just a hint to the right (55/45 L/R). The corners show slight, even wear, but still remain square. Crisp and clean, both front and back, and with an extremely boldly printed reverse. This card has an Excellent appearance. This is an impressive card with a much stronger eye-appeal than suggested by the assigned grade, sharing almost all of the qualities of a higher-graded example. SMR value in PSA VG-EX 4 is $2,000. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,232.50
