1951 Bowman #253 Mickey Mantle Rookie

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,643.75

Graded VG-EX 4 by PSA. Very attractive mid-grade example of Mickey Mantle's true rookie card. One of card collecting's greatest classics, Mantle's Bowman rookie card is the key to the 1951 Bowman set, and one of the most popular and significant of all postwar baseball cards. This striking example has four square corners with a hint of wear, vibrant colors, and 35/65 centering top to bottom. Clean front and back, with no distracting print lines as is so commonly found with this card. The barely detectable and not particularly distracting hint of a red outline on the left side of Mantle's cap, elbow, and bat is due to a very minor printing registration issue, and is likely responsible for the card not receiving an EX 5 grade from PSA. This is a very appealing mid-grade example with an overall appearance stronger than its technically accurate grade of Vg-Ex. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $2,643.75
