1929 New York Yankees Team-Signed Ball with Ruth and Gehrig
Starting Bid - $800.00, Sold For - $5,875.00
Official American League (Barnard) ball signed in black ink by seventeen members of the 1929 New York Yankees, including Ruth and Gehrig. Ruth’s signature (grading “5/6”) graces the sweet spot, while that of baseball’s famed Iron Horse (grading “6”) is situated prominently on the north panel. Ruth led the majors in home runs in 1929, with forty-six, and Gehrig hit thirty-five, but the Yankees (88-66) finished the season in a distant second place behind the dominating Philadelphia Athletics (104-46). The remaining signatures on the ball are those of Dickey, Lazzeri, Combs, Durocher, Shawkey (coach), O’Leary (coach), Heimach, Nekola, Wera, Moore, Durst, Wells, Paschal, Lary, and Fletcher (coach). Signatures range in grade from “3” to “6,” averaging “5.” The ball is lightly soiled and all of the manufacturer’s stampings remain bold and legible. A light coat of protective shellac has been applied long ago to preserve the signatures. In Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
