1931 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Signed Baseball
Starting Bid - $2,500.00, Sold For - $10,575.00
Presented here is one of the true “gems” of the hobby: a Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig signed baseball. The offered example, a "Babe Ruth Home Run Special" ball, features Ruth’s signature resting upon its customary place of honor, the sweet spot. On the panel directly to the left, sits the signature of Gehrig. Ruth’s signature has been penned in black fountain pen and is stunning (“7/8”). Gehrig’s signature, scripted in black fountain pen, is even stronger, grading a solid “9.” Rarely are signatures of either Ruth or Gehrig found so bold and perfect on a baseball, let alone such extraordinary signatures of both legends on the same ball. The ball is a beautiful cream color with only very minor wear from handling. The signature of Yankee catcher Ralph "Cy" Perkins ("8") appears on the side panel below the sweet spot, allowing us to date this ball to precisely 1931, as Perkins played only one season with the Yankees, which was 1931. This is an extraordinary high-grade signed ball, presenting the most desirable two-signature combination in the baseball-collecting world. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $2,500. Estimate $5,000/$7,500. SOLD FOR $10,575.00
