1939 First Day Cover Signed by Wagner, Traynor and Others

Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $940.00

This 1939 100th Anniversary of Baseball first day of issue stamp cover has been signed in either blue or black ink by eight former stars: Honus Wagner, Pie Traynor, Al Simmons, Al Lopez, Rabbit Warstler, John Cooney, Debs Garms, and Casey Stengel. At the time this envelope was signed (probably in 1939 at the Hall of Fame Day festivities), only Wagner was a bona fide Hall of Fame player. In later years he would share that honor with Traynor, Simmons, Lopez, and Stengel. All of the signatures are extremely strong and grade between “7" and "9." The airmail envelope (3.5 x 6.5 inches) is stamped “First Day of Issue” on the reverse and is postmarked “June 12, 1939 Cooperstown N. Y.” In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $940.00
