Hall of Fame Autographed 3 x 5 Collection and Four Vintage Team Sheets (46)

Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $2,643.75

Collection of forty-two different Hall of Fame signatures, the vast majority of which appear on a 3 x 5-inch index card or similar sized piece of paper, plus four vintage team sheets. Hall of Fame Signature Collection: Ten of the signatures appear on the front of postcards (some have been addressed and are postmarked). Of the signatures that appear on index cards, twenty-three signatures are on either unlined cards or the reverse of lined cards. Four of the signatures appear on the front of a lined index card. The remaining signatures appear on a variety of similar sized writing mediums. Seventeen of the signed pieces have been encapsulated and labeled “Authentic” by SGC (in conjunction with James Spence Authentication). This is an outstanding collection of early Hall of Fame signatures, especially when one considers the fact that all of the players represented here, with the exception of Berra and Roberts, are long since deceased. Encapsulated Signatures: Frank Baker (cut signature from a check affixed to a 3 x 5-inch card), Dave Bancroft, Dizzy Dean (cut signature affixed to a 3 x 5 inch card), Elmer Flick, Goose Goslin, William Harridge, Ernie Lombardi, Joe Medwick, Satchel Paige, Sam Rice, Red Ruffing, Ray Schalk, Al Simmons, George Sisler, Casey Stengel (inscribed “Casey Stengel – Hall of Famer – New York Mets – Hall of Famer”), Pie Traynor, and Zack Wheat. Remaining signatures: Walt Alston, Yogi Berra, Maz Carey, Joe Cronin, Ford Frick, Frank Frisch, Lefty Gomez (on a cut postcard), Lefty Grove, Chick Hafey, Jessie Haines, Bucky Harris (on a pink card), Gabby Hartnett, Harry Hooper, Waite Hoyt, Carl Hubbell, Travis Jackson, George Kelly, Freddy Lindstrom, Ted Lyons, Rube Marquard, Robin Roberts, Edd Roush, Ray Schalk (on a cut index card), Bill Terry, and Lloyd Waner. All of the signatures, which have been penned in a variety of inks (mostly blue or black ink), are quite bold and grade “9/10” on average. A number of the cards having been slightly trimmed to smaller dimensions; the collection is otherwise in overall Excellent condition. Team Sheets: All of the sheets are from autograph albums and measure approximately 4.5 x 6 inches. Three of the sheets have been signed by members of the 1935 Washington Senators; there are twenty-four different signatures in total on the three sheets. Washington Sheet One: Bobo Newsome, Ossie Bluege, Buddy Myer, Cliff Bolton, Bump Hadley, Jake Powell, Joe Kuhel, Fred Schulte, Cecil Travis, and Johnny Stone. 1935 Washington Sheet Two: Jack Russell, Belve Bean, Red Kress, Nick Altrock, Fred Sington, and Ed Linke. 1935 Washington Sheet Three: Heinie Manush, Bucky Harris, John Kerr (did not make the team in 1935), Lyn Lary, Jack Redmond, Henry Coppola, Sammy Holbrook, and Earl Whitehill. The fourth sheet has been singed by eight members of the 1925 Chicago White Sox: George Connally, Ted Lyons, Clyde Crouse, Harry Hooper, Roy Elsh, Willie Kamm, Dick Kerr, and Johnny Mostil. All of the signatures on the four sheets have been penned in either blue or black fountain pen, and grade "9/10." Each sheet displays two notebook holes along the top border and is in Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 46 signed items. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000.
