Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,645.00

1947 Brooklyn Dodgers team-signed ball and original news photo dating from Jackie Robinson’s historic rookie season. 1) 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers National League Champions Team-Signed Ball. The official National League (Frick) ball has been signed in either blue or black ink by thirty team members including Robinson (grading “7”), Reese, Hodges, Jorgensen, Walker (sweet spot), Vaughan (sweet spot), Edwards (sweet spot), Furillo, Reiser, Hermanski, Miksis, Lavagetto, Gionfriddo, Bragan, Hatten, Lombardi, Casey, Taylor, King, Barney, Behman, Gregg, Bankhead, Pitler (coach), Blades (coach), and Sukeforth (coach). The remaining four signatures have faded beyond legibility. Aside from those that have faded, the signatures range in grade from “5” to “8,” averaging “6/7.” The ball is lightly toned and soiled, and displays a few very minor scratches and abrasions. In Very Good to Excellent condition. 2) 1947 Brooklyn Dodgers Team Photo. Sepia-toned International News Photo captures thirty-six members of the club in a classic team pose at Ebbets Field including Robinson, manager Burt Shotton, Reese, Hodges, Branca, Furillo, and Vaughan. The photo includes its original attached news caption on the reverse, dated 9/5/47, which reads in part: “Editors – Suggested for use if Brooklyn Dodgers win the National League pennant.” The Dodgers won the pennant by five games over the Cardinals, but lost the World Series to the Yankees in seven games. The photo (11 x 7 inches) has a few light creases, primarily along the left and right border areas, which do not impact the photograph's impressive display value. In Very Good to Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total 2 items. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
