Circa 1953 Texas League Multisigned Baseball with Mantle, Gomez, and Hubbell
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $528.75
Official Texas League (Gardner) ball with fifteen signatures, including Mickey Mantle and two other Hall of Fame players. Mantle’s signature has been scripted in blue ink (grading “9”) and appears on a side panel. Other recognizable signatures on the ball are those of Carl Hubbell (sweet spot), Lefty Gomez, Pepper Martin, and Dale Mitchell. The remaining signatures are most likely those of Texas League players. The signatures, penned in various shades of blue ink, range in grade from “5” to “9,” averaging “6/7.” This ball was most likely signed sometime between the years 1951 and 1954 due to the fact that Mantle made his Major League debut in 1951 and J. Alvin Gardner was president of the Texas League from 1929 through 1954. Although the exact circumstances of the ball’s signing may never be known, it probably originates from a barnstorming tour as all of the Major League players on the ball were native to the Oklahoma/Texas area. The ball displays light toning and is in Excellent condition. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $528.75
