Jackie Robinson Single-Signed Ball
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $3,525.00
Official American League (Harridge) ball inscribed in blue ink by Jackie Robinson on a side panel: "Best Wishes Andy - Jackie Robinson." A very light abrasion touches upon the "R" in "Robinson," otherwise both the inscription and signature grade "9." Harridge was American League president from 1931 to 1959, thus there is a strong possibility that this ball was signed by Robinson during his active playing career (1947-1956). That the ball is an American League ball might also suggest that it was possibly signed at one of the six World Series that Robinson participated in. Whatever the circumstances regarding its origin, it is an exceptional example of one of the most desirable of all postwar Hall of Famer signed balls. The ball is very clean, appearing Excellent, but close examination reveals a number of light abrasions, the largest of which is circular in nature and is obviously related to the manner in which the ball was once mounted for display. The signature panel is free of any flaws (other than the previously mentioned light abrasion touching the signature) and presents as Excellent. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500+. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
