1989 Perez-Steele Celebration Postcard Sets (11)

Starting Bid - $400.00, Sold For - $1,057.50

Collection of eleven 1989 Perez-Steele Celebration postcard sets, each in its original presentation case and slipcover as issued . These sets were purchased by our consignor in 1989, put in the closet, and have not seen the light of day since. Each set is complete with all forty-four postcards (plus checklist), the accompanying illustrated booklet, presentation case, and slipcover. Each presentation case is, in turn, housed in its original white box. The 1989 Perez-Steele Celebration postcard sets, issued in conjunction with the Hall of Fame in celebration of the museum's 50th anniversary (hence its title), were limited in their distribution to only 10,000 sets and originally retailed for $200 per set. The beautifully illustrated cards have long been a favorite among collectors and autographed sets are highly prized today. Many collectors who purchased sets sought to have each of the cards signed by the respective player (if possible). The owner of these cards had the opportunity to have Brooks Robinson sign his cards, and each of the eleven Brooks Robinson cards in these sets have been signed by Robinson in blue Sharpie (all grading "10"). He was also able to acquire the signature of Enos Slaughter on five of his respective cards. Thus, sixteen of the cards offered here (eleven Brooks Robinson and five Enos Slaughter) have been signed. Slaughter has since passed away, but today it is still possible to have fifteen additional cards in each set signed. All of the cards remain in Near Mint to Mint condition, as are the booklets and cases. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 11 complete 1989 Perez-Steele Celebration postcard sets. Reserve $400. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $1,057.50
