1888 Duke and 1910 Mayo's Baseball Tobacco Card Collection (18)
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $587.50
Collection of eighteen different generic baseball tobacco cards, dating from 1888 and circa 1910, issued by two different manufacturers: Duke and Mayo. While tobacco cards featuring specific ballplayers are very popular, less well known are cards from various equally rare "nonsport" sets which have cards with a baseball theme. This collection is comprised of cards from two of these sets: 1) 1888 N88 Duke "Terrors of America" (8 cards): This issue depicts colorful illustrations of American youngsters playing various outdoor games including baseball. All of these cards feature kids playing baseball. Two cards grade Vg-Ex to Ex, and six from Gd to Vg. 2) 1910 T203 Mayo’s Baseball Comics Partial Set (10 of 25 cards in the set): collection of ten cards from this amusing and scarce 1910-era tobacco issue featuring comical illustrations depicting various baseball phrases and terminology. Six cards grade Vg to Vg-Ex, and four range from Fr to Gd. This is a fascinating collection of early generic baseball tobacco cards, which naturally represent an outstanding value in comparison to other baseball tobacco issues from the era. Total 18 cards. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$300. SOLD FOR $587.50
