1888 N172 Old Judge Chicago Maroons Collection (3)
Starting Bid - $500.00, Sold For - $1,292.50
Collection of three N172 Old Judge "Chicago Maroons" cards. The "Maroons" series, featuring players from the Chicago Maroons of the Western Association, is one of the rarest and most popular subsets of the N172 Old Judge set. The Maroons franchise disbanded after a single season, contributing to the rarity of its cards in the Old Judge set. The collection consists of the following: 1) J.E. Dunn (Vg-Ex front. Flawless image with outstanding contrast, with a hint of foxing along the top and right border. Glue remnants and pencil marks on the reverse. This is an extremely attractive, sharp-looking card with a very crisp photo). 2) Jumbo Schoeneck/catching (Vg-Ex, crisp, flawless image, rounded corners, perfectly clean reverse). 3) Jumbo Schoeneck/batting (Ex from the front, with four square corners, and the image is acceptable but ever so slightly out of focus as made. Minor mounting remnants on reverse, and checklist notations in pencil from an old-time collector). This is a high-quality group of three very tough N172 Old Judges from the "Maroons" series, which has always been among the most elusive of all Old Judges. Total 3 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
