Early Turn-of-the-Century Baseball Postcard Collection (195)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $2,643.75
Baseball has long been a popular theme for amusing postcards. Presented here is an outstanding and diverse collection of 195 comic baseball postcards, nearly all of which date from the period 1900 to 1915. Included are cards from at least twenty different cataloged sets, as well as numerous rare and unusual individual "one card set" examples. Only one card is a duplicate. Today, it would be very difficult to assemble a similar collection without a significant investment in both time and money. This is a substantial collection of quality baseball postcards assembled over many years by a longtime advanced collector. The following are the twenty identified sets represented here (referred to by the catalog numbers first assigned by Burdick and then later added to by Buck Barker and Frank Keetz): PC798-1, "Fan-ie Series" (complete set, of 12), PC798-2 (complete set of 12 plus 1 duplicate), PC798-4 (4 of 12), PC798-5 (4 of 12), PC798-6 (4 of 12), PC798-14 (7 of 8), PC798-15 (1 of 6), PC798-16 (7 of 8), PC798-17 (8 of 15), PC798-23 (8 of 12), PC798-25 (complete set of 6), PC798-36 (5 of 6), PC798-39 (3 of 5), PC798-41 (4 of 6), PC798-42 (3 of 6), PC798-51 (complete set of 4), PC798-54 (5 of 6), PC798-55 (complete set of 3), PC798-61 (6 of 11), and PC798-66 (9 of 20). A majority of the cards bear writing on the reverse and have been mailed. Overall condition ranges from Good to Excellent, averaging Vg. Many more images can be found on our website.
