Henry Chadwick Photo Collection (5)

Collection of five photographs picturing Henry Chadwick, "The Father of Baseball." All of these photos, which originate from the Chadwick estate, picture Chadwick with family or friends and date from his later years. 1) 4.75 x 3.75 inch photo of Chadwick seated in his dining room playing cards and chess simultaneously with three other gentleman. Chadwick was a masterful player of both and this photograph was obviously taken to illustrate his extraordinary ability to play more than one game at a masters level at the same time. Exceptional contrast and detail. The photo is affixed to a cabinet card mount and is in Very Good to Excellent condition. 2) 3.5 x 3.5 inch snapshot photo of Henry Chadwick seated with Jane Chadwick, his wife. The salutation to Henry Chadwick on the reverse is in the hand of Mrs. Chadwick, and notes makes note that the year is 1908 (the last year of Chadwick's life). In Good condition, with a tack hole and several creases, accompanied by original cardboard photo matting with round window. 3) 5.5 x 3.5 inch photo of Chadwick with his granddaughter (as noted by the pencil notation on the reverse). In Good to Very Good condition with a small vertical tear and light creasing. 4-5) Two photographs (each 4.75 x 3.75 inch) picturing Chadwick on a hunting trip. This first pictures him with a large group of hunters, while the second pictures him with two fellow hunters. Each photo is a little on the light side in terms of contrast and is in overall Very Good to Excellent condition and has has been affixed to a slightly larger cabinet card style cardboard mount.
