1915 New York Yankees Team Photo by George Grantham Bain
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $5,581.25
Original George Grantham Bain news photo capturing the 1915 New York Yankees posing together at their spring training facility. Thirty-three team members are pictured including manager “Wild Bill” Donovan and Roger Peckinpaugh, who, in 1914 at the age of 23, became the youngest manager in baseball history when he briefly piloted the Yankees for the final twenty games of that season. The notation “N.Y. Americans March 1915” appears along the top border of the photo. This is extremely early for a Yankees team photo. Both a Bain News Service stamp and a Culver Pictures Inc. stamp appear on the reverse. Also affixed to the reverse, by means of clear tape, is the original wire caption for the photo, dated March 31, 1915. The photo (7 x 5 inches), which presents with flawless clarity and is ideal for display, has a few tears and chipping along the border areas (most noticeably in the lower left) which can easily be matted out, and is otherwise in Very Good condition. Reserve $200. Estimate $300/$500. SOLD FOR $5,581.25
