Two 1922 New York Giants Team Photos by Paul Thompson

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $3,525.00

Collection of two New York Giants original 1922 news photos, each taken by noted baseball photographer Paul Thompson. The first, taken at the Polo Grounds, captures the club in a classic team pose. Thirty-one team members are pictured including manager John McGraw, coach Hughie Jennings, Frankie Frisch, Dave Bancroft, Heinie Groh, Ross Youngs, Casey Stengel, and George Kelly. Thompson’s credit stamp appears on the reverse. Accompanied by its original wire caption (detached but present), dated September 26, 1922, which identifies each player by name and notes that the team will probably face the Yankees in the World Series beginning on October 4th. The photo (10 x 8 inches) displays two corner chips (top left and right) and a tear in the lower right corner. All of the flaws are relegated to the white border areas and the main image remains in Excellent condition. The second photo (8.5 x 6.5 inches), also taken at the Polo Grounds, captures the probable starting lineup for the Giants in the 1922 World Series as they pose in front of the grandstand. Pictured here are Dave Bancroft, Heinie Groh, Frankie Frisch, “Irish” Meusel, Ross Youngs, George Kelly, Casey Stengel, Frank Snyder, and Art Nehf. Thompson’s credit stamp appears on the reverse. Accompanied by its original wire caption that identifies each player by name. The photo displays a chip in both the upper left and lower right corners and is otherwise in Excellent condition. The Giants captured their second consecutive World Championship in 1922 by defeating the New York Yankees in the World Series four games to none (one tie). That victory was notable in that it marked the last World Championship won by the Giants under manager John McGraw. Total: 2 photos. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
