1933 Lou Gehrig Blum's Baseball Bulletin Premium
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $822.50
Circa 1933 Blum’s Baseball Bulletin Premium picturing the fabled “Iron Horse,” Lou Gehrig. This rare premium has not yet been cataloged and we have never seen another example. Blum's Baseball Bulletin apparently issued these premiums over a period of several years. This is a particularly interesting example both because it features Lou Gehrig, of course, and also because the premium commemorates Gehrig’s amazing feat of playing in 1,308 consecutive games, breaking the record previously held by former Yankee Everett Scott. Gehrig, of course, went on to play in 2,130 consecutive games, but when this premium was issued he had just passed Everett Scott's once seemingly impossible-to-beat record of 1,307 consecutive games. The striking design features a black-and-white photo of Gehrig set against a shadowy background image of Everett Scott looking on. A small synopsis of Gehrig’s record-breaking accomplishment appears in the lower right. The premium (11.5 x 14 inches) displays a very tiny tear in the left border as well a number of light creases. In Very Good condition overall but looks nicer. Rare, interesting, and ideal for display as intended. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $822.50
