1913-1914 Chicago White Sox/New York Giants World Tour Program
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $411.25
Rare publication issued to commemorate the Chicago White Sox /New York Giants World Tour of 1913-14. Published by S. Black Willsden & Co., Chicago, in 1914 immediately following the tour, the 128-page book features hundreds of photos as well as a day-by-day diary of the trip. Included among the images are full-page photos of Charles Comiskey (organizer of the tour and owner of the White Sox), John McGraw (manager of the Giants), and James Callahan (manager of the White Sox), as well as individual portrait images of all of the tour members including Jim Thorpe, Tris Speaker, Buck Weaver, Sam Crawford, Urban Faber, Hans Lobert, Fred Merkle, and Mike Donlin. These same players and many others are pictured countless times throughout the book, both on and off the field, in such faraway lands as Australia, Japan, Egypt, Italy, France, and England. This was one of the great, though somewhat little known, world baseball tours which was inspired by the World Tour of 1888/89, and preceded the famous tours of Japan of the 1930s. The brown, soft-cover book (7.25 x 10 inches) has a small, insignificant water stain on the front cover and a small tear along the base of the spine. A "Baseball Magazine Co." stamp appears on the front flyleaf along with the black-ink inscription of a former owner (dated 1915). A few pages have tiny edge tears and all interior pages are bright and clean. Very Good to Excellent condition. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$300. SOLD FOR $411.25
