Circa 1930 Babe Ruth "Home Run Special" Ball with Original Box
Starting Bid - $100.00, Sold For - $2,232.50
Spalding "Babe Ruth Home Run Special" baseball accompanied by its rare and fragile original box featuring Ruth's portrait. During the early 1930s, this was the ball of choice for most of America's youth and if there were any hesitation by consumers as to what ball was best, Ruth's photo on the box usually served to clinch the deal. The ball displays a few areas of light soiling; all of the manufacturer's stampings remain clear and legible; a number of signatures appear to have been removed from the ball but this in no way detracts from the ball's overall Excellent appearance. The box is actually the rarer and more significant of the two related items, and is perfect for display with the ball. The box is in Good to Very Good condition, complete as issued, with no significant tears and all of the flaps intact. Total: 2 items (ball and box). Reserve $1,00. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $2,232.50
