1936 New York Yankees News Photo with Gehrig and DiMaggio

Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $470.00

Original International News photograph capturing the 1936 World Champion New York Yankees in a classic team pose. Twenty-seven team members are pictured in this somewhat unusual and unposed shot, including Gehrig, DiMaggio (his rookie season), McCarthy (Mgr.), Combs, Lazzeri, Ruffing, Gomez, Ruffing, and Crosetti. This has the appearance of an "outtake" but was actually used for publication. As noted by the attached original wire caption on the reverse (dated "9/10/36"), this photo, capturing the team on the road, was the very first team photo of the entire club taken since they clinched the pennant in 1936. The Yankees, led by DiMaggio and Gehrig, went on to defeat the Giants in the World Series, thus capturing the first of four consecutive World Championships. It is rare to find such an exceptionally high quality team photograph from this era. The photo (11 x 7 inches) displays flawless clarity, extraordinary detail, and is in Excellent condition overall. Matted to total dimensions of 13.75 x 10 inches. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800. SOLD FOR $470.00
