1888 "Scrapps" Collection Including 3 HOFers (7)
Starting Bid - $200.00, Sold For - $2,115.00
Collection of seven 1888 "Scrapps," highlighted by three Hall of Famers: Dan Brouthers, Ned Hanlon, and Sam Thompson. This uniquely designed issue features nine players from the American Association’s legendary St. Louis Brownie Champs and nine players from the Detroit Wolverines. It is one of only a few full-color baseball issues from the nineteenth-century and also one of the most distinctive and unusual of all early baseball card sets. The following grades do not take into account the glue stains on their reverses (which often slightly bleeds through to front), which is standard for this set: Dan Brouthers (HOF, Gd due to a few scattered pinpoint surface flakes, very minor, otherwise Vg), Sam Thompson (HOF, Fr due to some scattered surface flaking but still a nice-looking card), Bob Caruthers (Vg), David Foutz (tiny pinhole in hat, otherwise Vg), Ned Hanlon (HOF, Vg), J.C. Rowe (Gd), and Hardy Richardson (Gd). These cards were intended to be glued into scrapbooks and almost always have been. This is a very attractive collection of seven unusual nineteenth-century die-cuts featuring two early Hall of Famers. Total 7 cards. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$800+. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
