Gigantic Stan Musial Autographed Collection (190)

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $3,525.00

Offered here is the largest and most comprehensive Stan Musial autograph collection we have ever seen, which our consignor assembled over a period of a decade because of his great admiration for Stan Musial and his own love of collecting. While the highlights of his larger collection include incredible items such items as a 1952 game-worn jersey and four Musial game bats (all of which appear as separate lots in this auction), the assembly of the collection was never about money or value. In many ways the incredible autographed items presented in this lot are the heart and soul of the entire collection. A total of 190 Musial signed items comprise this collection, which includes nearly every type of item under the sun, including baseball cards, balls, photos, buttons, plates, newspaper pages, magazines, books, ticket stubs, golf balls, posters, and a number of pieces which are not easily categorized. The vast number of diverse items included here precludes us from providing a detailed description of each, but just the short list of the most important signed items below will communicate its extraordinary scope. This is not a stack of signed 8 x 10 photographs. This is the ultimate Stan Musial autograph collection. The vast majority of the signatures have been scripted in blue Sharpie and grade "9/10" (with a few slightly lesser). Provided here is a general category list of the items included in the collection, with the number of signed Musial pieces in each grouping noted in parenthesis. Baseballs (15) Nearly all are single-signed St. Louis Cardinals souvenir balls, one is multi-signed with two Musial signatures, Marty Marion, Mike McCormick, and a few other badly faded signatures. Ex-Mt on average. 1951 Wheaties Unused Complete Box Featuring Musial (2) One is signed in blue ink, the other in blue marker. Both boxes are Nr/Mt-Mt. Photos (38) Thirty four are non-vintage 8 x 10-inch photos (includes both black-and-white and color) and four are 5 x 7-inch black-and-white (one non-vintage, the other three St. Louis Cardinals photo-pack photos). Some duplicates. Ex on average. World Series Ticket Stubs (4) Three stubs from 1946, one from 1942. Baseball Cards (25) Comprised of two 1947 Homogenized Bond Bread (square corners), 1950 Royal Desserts (1b), 1952 Bowman (#196), 1952 Berk Ross (Ex), 1952 Wheaties, seven 1958 Topps (#476), 1959 Topps (#150), two 1962 Topps (#50 and #317), 1962 Topps Baseball Buck, 1962 Topps Stamp, 1963 Topps Peel-Off, and six modern issues. Vg-Ex on average. Vintage Baseball Guides or Sporting Goods Publications (16) Each dates from either the 1940s or 1950s. Vg on average. Books (12) Includes both hard and soft cover. Ex overall. Vintage Magazine or Newspaper Advertisements (19) Vg overall. Vintage Magazines (4) Vg-Ex overall. Golf Balls (15) All are St. Louis Cardinals golf balls (Nr-Mt). Commemorative plates (5) Mt overall. Programs (3) Vg-Ex overall. Buttons (3) Three identical, Ex-Mt overall. Posters (4) Four identical. Vg overall. Miscellaneous (25) Includes a record album, color reproductions of vintage ads, a clock baseball, a harmonica case, a bat rack, a tee shirt, trade publications, art prints, and a few other items. Ex overall. We think this collection would be impossible to duplicate. It is also difficult for us to provide a meaningful estimate of value. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Total: 190 signed items. Reserve $1,000. Estimate (open). SOLD FOR $3,525.00
