Single-Signed Baseball Collection - Stars and Future Hall of Famers (59)
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,762.50
Collection of fifty-nine different single-signed balls featuring the signatures of many former stars and notable players. While none of the players represented on the single-signed balls are currently in the Baseball Hall of Fame, a number of them are strong candidates for future election. Single-signed highlights include balls signed by five recent members of baseball's elite 500 Home Run Club (Bonds, Sosa, McGwire, Griffey, and Rodriguez), a ball signed by NBA Hall of Famer Michael Jordan, four balls signed by members of the All-American Girls Professional Baseball League, and balls signed by Bobby Thomson, Ralph Branca, Randy Johnson, Tom Glavine, and Pete Rose. Unless otherwise noted, all of the balls are either Official American League, National League, or Major League balls (production date of each between 1970 and 2006) and have been signed in blue or black ink ("9/10"). All but two of the balls have been signed across the sweet spot. A number of the players have also added a few additional notations relating to their respective careers. Included among the single-signed balls are Barry Bonds, Mark McGwire, Alex Rodriguez (1997 All-Star Game ball), Sammy Sosa, Randy Johnson, Ken Griffey Jr. (1997 All-Star Game ball), Michael Jordan (of NBA fame), Tom Glavine (1993 All-Star Game ball), Livan Hernandez, Carl Erskine, Charles Johnson, Bert Campaneris, Bobby Thomson, Ralph Branca, Juan Gonzalez, Buck O'Neil, Mo Vaughn, Edgar Martinez, George Foster, Dave Concepcion, John Olerud, Tim Salmon, Orel Hershiser, Bobby Valentine, Gene Budig, Pete Rose, Chipper Jones, Don Newcombe, Johnny Podres, Maury Wills, Tim McCarver, Bud Harrelson (side panel), Ivan Rodriguez, Alan Trammel, Rube Walker, Clem Labine, Al Gionfriddo, Willis Hudlin (gave up home run number fifty-one to Ruth in 1927), Frank Torre, Todd Helton (unofficial ball), and Keith Hernandez. Included with the single-signed balls are six multi-signed balls, the highlight of which is 1969 Mets reunion ball (25 signatures, including Seaver and Berra). Approximately thirty percent of the balls display light-to-moderate age toning; otherwise the balls are in Near Mint condition overall. Some of the players represented here (such as Bonds and Jordan) charge hundreds of dollars for signed balls. The assembly of this collection one at a time at retail would cost a small fortune. Total: 65 balls (59 single-signed balls and 6 multi-signed balls). LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,762.50
