1929-1931 Philadelphia Athletics Signature Collection with Foxx (PSA/DNA GEM MT "10")

Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $1,880.00

When one speaks of great baseball dynasties, the 1929-1931 Philadelphia Athletics come quickly to mind. With an offense led by Jimmie Foxx, Al Simmons, and Mickey Cochrane, and a pitching staff anchored by Lefty Grove, the A's captured three consecutive pennants and two World Championships during that span. Offered here is a collection of twenty-six signatures belonging to players who appeared on the A's official roster in at least one of those three years, plus that of Earle Mack (coach). The highlight of the group is a flawless blue-ink signature of Jimmie Foxx on an unlined index card that has been encapsulated and graded a perfect "GEM MT 10" by PSA/DNA. All of the remaining signatures, with the exception of Eddie Rommel's, have also been encapsulated by PSA/DNA but are not graded (they are all labeled "Authentic."). The vast majority of the signatures (19) have been penned on index cards (3 x 5 inches), with the remainder appearing, respectively, on two government postcards and six cuts. Seven of the signatures include a brief salutation or biographical notation penned by the respective player, and one (Mickey Cochrane) has been personalized. Unless otherwise noted, all of the signatures (penned in a variety of inks) grade either "9" or "10" and appear on an unlined index card. Comprised of: Jimmie Foxx (1929-1931), Waite Hoyt (1931), Lefty Grove (1929-1931), Mickey Cochrane (1929-1931, personalized "To Fred," on a government postcard, postmarked "1957"), Al Simmons (1929-1931, small cut affixed to an index card), Jack Quinn (1929-1939, on a government postcard, postmarked "1939"), Eddie Rommel (1929-1931, on a small 4.5 x 3-inch autograph album page), Rube Walberg (1929-1931), Mule Haas (1929-1931), Doc Cramer (1929-1931), Walter French (1929), Howard Ehmke (1929), Joe Boley (1929-1931), Jimmie Dykes (1929-1931), George Earnshaw (1929-1931), Bing Miller (1929-1931), Earle Mack (coach 1924-1951, on a 5 x 1.75-inch cut), Eric McNair (1929-1931, on a 5 x 1-inch cut), Homer Summa (1929-1930, in pencil, "8," on a 4.25 x 1-inch cut), Max Bishop (1929-1931, on a folded autograph sheet, with visible dimensions of 3 x 4.25 inches), Dib Williams (1930), Bill Shores (1929-1931), George Burns (1929), Jim Moore (1930-1931), Phil Todt (1931), John Heving (1931), and Roy Mahaffey (1930-1931).
