1939 Hall of Fame First-Day Cover Signed by Honus Wagner
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $2,115.00
1939 Centennial of Baseball first day cover signed by "J. Honus Wagner." The signature of baseball's famed "Flying Dutchman" has been magnificently scripted in black fountain pen vertically along the center of the envelope and grades "8/9." The striking and elaborate design of the envelope pays homage to Wagner and includes both a tiny photo of him and short biography. This is one of the most desirable of an extremely high quality series of 1939 Centennial of Baseball First-Day Covers designed with real photos. Wagner was one of the first five inductees into the Baseball Hall of Fame and his signature on any 1939 first-day cover, let alone on the premier cover commemorating his career, is especially prized by collectors today. This is a great Honus Wagner signed item. The envelope (6.5 x 3.5 inches), postmarked "June 12 1939 — Cooperstown, NY," is in Excellent condition overall. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
