1907 Detroit Tigers Bandanna with Cobb
Starting Bid - $400.00 , Sold For - $587.50
In 1907 the Detroit Tigers won the first of three consecutive American League pennants. This large souvenir cotton bandanna, measuring approximately 17 x 17 inches, was issued to honor their achievement. The blue-on-gold display features images of a fierce tiger along with manager Hughie "Wee-e-e-ah" Jennings and stars Wild Bill Donovan and Ty Cobb ("The Great and Only"). Cobb won his first batting title in 1907, hitting .350, but the Tigers could muster only a tie in the first game against the Cubs in the World Series (the first tie in World Series history) before being swept. This bandanna may have been intended to be a pillowcase, as decorative fabric covers were very popular in this era. This is an extremely rare, early baseball textile. We have seen only two or three examples of this design surface over the years, including one printed on white. Excellent condition. Matted and framed to total dimensions of 23.75 x 23.75 inches. Reserve $400. Estimate $800/$1,200. SOLD FOR $587.50
