Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $822.50
Presented here are two Bain news photos capturing, respectively, the owners and officials of the American League in 1911, and the owners and officials of the National League in 1917. This is a very unusual pair of photos featuring many historically significant figures. Both of these photos were taken at each League’s respective winter meeting of that year and picture the League members posing together in a hotel setting. The American League photo, which is date stamped “Dec 21, 1911” on the reverse, pictures fourteen individuals, including League president Ban Johnson, Charles Comiskey (Chicago), Frank Navin (Detroit), Ben Shibe (Philadelphia) and Frank Farrell (New York). Two separate Culver Pictures, Inc., stamps appear on the reverse. The National League photo, which is date stamped “Dec 12, 1917” on the reverse, pictures sixteen individuals. Each gentleman is identified (by last name only) in print on the reverse, under the heading “Meeting National League.” Included are League president John Tener, Charles Ebbets (Brooklyn), Branch Rickey (St. Louis), August Hermann (Cincinnati), Barney Dreyfuss (Pittsburgh), Charles Weeghman (Chicago), Percy Haughton (Boston), Harry Hempstead (New York), and William Baker (Philadelphia). A Bain News Service stamp appears on the reverse. Both photos (each 7 x 5 inches) display a number of common flaws including border chips, small border tears, and a few minor creases. Nearly all of the flaws are relegated to the peripheral areas and the central image of each photo is Excellent in appearance. Total: 2 photos. Reserve $200. Estimate $400+. SOLD FOR $822.50
