1919-1947 Babe Ruth Sheet Music Collection (4)

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $822.50

This collection of sheet music features four classic examples celebrating the exploits of the legendary "Sultan of Swat," Babe Ruth. While the technical merits of each composition are beyond our area of expertise, there is no denying the attractive visual appeal afforded by the attractive, colorful covers, all of which feature either a photo or illustration of Ruth. Three of the pieces were published during his playing career, while the fourth dates to 1947. 1) “Batterin’ Babe” (“Look At Him Now”) . Published in 1919 by Colonial Music Publishing Company, Boston. This sheet music was published just prior to the sale of Ruth to the Yankees, thus the cover features Ruth at bat as a member of the Red Sox. 9.25 x 12.25 inches. Vg, with the name of a former owner written in blue ink on the cover. 2) Oh! You “Babe” Ruth . Published in 1920 by Hart Music Company, New York. The cover features a photo of Ruth posing on the field, while the back cover displays an advertisement for Ruth’s 1920 theatrical release, Headin Home. 9.25 x 12 inches. Vg-Ex. 3) Babe Ruth! Babe Ruth! (We Know What He Can Do) . Published in 1928 by the author, J. W. Spencer of Olneyville, Rhode Island. The cover displays an illustration of Ruth at the plate. 9.25 x 12 inches. Vg-Ex, with a few small border tears that affect both the interior page and back cover. Accompanying the sheet music is a promotional pin-back button (one-inch diameter,Vg) for Babe Ruth! Babe Ruth! (We Know What He Can Do) that bears the name of the song as well as the price of the sheet music (25 cents). 4) Babe. Published in 1947 by Tobias and Lewis Music Company, New York. The cover features a large photographic image of Ruth in uniform. 12 x 9 inches. Ex. Total: 4 sheet music. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $822.50
