Circa 1933 Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig Stereograph Cards (3) with Vintage Stereoscope Viewer

Starting Bid - $100.00 , Sold For - $1,292.50

Offered here are two standard-size stereograph cards of Babe Ruth and one of Lou Gehrig, each dating from the 1930s, produced by the Keystone View Co. A stereograph card (standard size is 7 x 3.37 inches) features two identical photos mounted side-by-side that, when viewed through a stereoscope, merge and appear to present a single three-dimensional image. The first card pictures Ruth posing in front of the dugout at spring training, circa 1933. The card is numbered "32598" and bears the caption "Babe Ruth, King of Swat, at St. Petersburg, Florida." Near Mint condition. The second stereograph card features a crystal clear image of Gehrig posing in front of the grandstand. The card is numbered "32597" and is captioned "Lou Gehrig, Famous Yankee First Baseman." Near Mint condition. The third example, which appears to have been produced as a diagnostic tool for optometrists, features four small photos as opposed to two large ones. The top two opposing photos capture Ruth at the plate during a game, while the bottom set of photos picture Western star Tom Mix jumping off a rock. The text on the reverse of the card reads "The Keystone Eye Comfort and Depth-Perception Series - For the Development of Comfortable Vision and a High Degree of Depth Perception. - E. C. 109 - 33290 Fusing the two upper pictures requires 14 prism diopters divergence (prism B. I.); Fusing the two lower pictures requires 19 prism diopters divergence (prism B. I.)." Excellent condition. Included with the cards is a vintage mounted stereoscope viewer (height: 12 inches) that, in addition to its functionality, allowing one to appreciate the stereograph cards as intended, is also outstanding for display. Excellent condition. Total: 4 items (3 stereograph cards and 1 stereoscope viewer). Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $1,292.50
