1939 Centennial of Baseball Jacket
Starting Bid - $100.00 , Sold For - $5,875.00
The 1939 Baseball Centennial was a yearlong celebration highlighted by the dedication of the Baseball Hall of Fame on June 12th. Offered here is an exceedingly rare Baseball Centennial souvenir jacket, the only example that we have ever seen. This jacket may have been designed to be worn by ushers at the 1939 Hall of Fame ceremonies, but it is also possible that it was available for sale at the Hall of Fame gift shop or other Cooperstown retail establishments that summer. The white jacket, featuring red sleeves and blue trim along the collar, cuffs, pockets, and waist, displays the colorful Baseball Centennial logo silk-screened on the left breast. “Cooperstown” is lettered in blue above the logo. A “Duracraft” label (“Perry, NY”) appears in the collar. The zipper-front jacket displays moderate wear, including a light stain on the front and a number of small tears to the blue trim at the collar, waist, and cuffs. The outer fabric of the jacket appears to be a blend of natural and synthetic materials and is similar in texture to dureen. Although no size is listed, it appears to be an adult medium. This is the first example of this 1939 Baseball Centennial jacket we have ever seen, and one of the most substantial and unusual souvenirs relating to the 1939 Baseball Centennial celebration, which we have found has become an increasingly popular area of collecting interest. Reserve $100. Estimate $200/$400. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
