1903 E107 Breisch-Williams George Van Haltren
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $2,115.00
Graded VG 40 by SGC. Rare and extremely noteworthy E107 of outfielder George Van Haltren from the New York Giants. This is one of the most fascinating cards in the E107 set because the team name "Brooklyn" can be seen very faintly across the chest of Van Haltren's jersey. The card designer removed it (or, rather, attempted to remove it), but it is still faintly discernible under close examination. Van Haltren played for Brooklyn only in 1890 in the Players League; therefore the photograph used in this 1903 set is actually from 1890. Van Haltren was a star player. His career spanned the years from 1887 to 1903, making this E107 his final card as player. Van Haltren's lifetime batting average of .316 makes him one of the best hitters of the nineteenth century. Many consider him to be worthy of induction to the Hall of Fame. This is a very strong card for the VG grade, centered slightly to the left, with just a hint of light staining on the back. Extremely rare and interesting E107 featuring one of the great stars of the era. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $2,115.00
