1929-1938 Chicago Cubs World Series Press Pin Collection (4)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $5,875.00
Collection of four rare and desirable high-grade Chicago Cubs World Series press pins: 1929, 1932, 1935, and 1938. Each of these pins is unusually rare compared to other World Series press pins from the era. The prevailing theory regarding their scarcity today is that the frugal Cubs management simply ordered fewer pins than their World Series counterparts in an effort to cut costs. Whatever the reason, their rarity, combined with their exceptionally attractive designs and the popularity of the Cubs in general, has made them among the most desirable of all post-1920 World Series press pins. Interestingly, a different manufacturer produced each pin: 1929 (Hipp & Coburn), 1932 (Dieges & Clust), 1935 (S.D. Childs), and 1938 (Lambert Bros.). The 1929 and 1932 examples feature a threaded-post back, while the other two are brooches. The 1929, 1932, and 1935 pins are in Near Mint condition, the 1938 pin is in Excellent to Mint condition. This is an exceptionally high-grade collection of these rarities, all of which originate from an advanced collection assembled long ago by an extremely discriminating and condition-conscious World Series press pin collector. Total: 4 pins. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000. SOLD FOR $5,875.00
