1957 Dick Littlefield Chicago Cubs Game-Used Home Jersey - One-Year Style
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $3,525.00
Rare one-year-style Chicago Cubs home jersey worn by journeyman pitcher Dick Littlefield in 1957. Graded A10 by MEARS. The white flannel pinstripe jersey, with zipper front, features the Cubs multicolor embroidered team logo on the left breast. The number "34" is appliquéd on the reverse in blue felt. The uniform number, year, set number, and size ("34-1957-2-42") are chain-stitched in blue upon a white strip tag in the collar. Located on the left front tail are a "Wilson 42" label and a laundry tag. Original and unaltered, the jersey displays light wear throughout. This is a rare "style" jersey that was only employed by the Cubs for the 1957 season. In that year the Cubs changed from a traditional solid-white to a pinstripe design for its home uniform. While the now-familiar design of the jersey has basically remained the same through the ensuing years, 1957 was the only season in which the jerseys featured a zipper front. 1957 was Dick Littlefield's only season with the Cubs. The veteran left-hander appeared in forty-eight games with the club, mainly in relief, and finished the season with a 2-3 record and 4 saves. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is the only 1957 Chicago Cubs home jersey listed in the MEARS census. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticator David Bushing. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $3,525.00
