1945-1951 St. Louis Cardinals Warm-Up Jacket Signed by Musial
Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $1,057.50
The St. Louis Cardinals have always had one of the most attractive uniforms in baseball. The same can be said for its warm-up jackets. Offered here is a near-pristine St. Louis Cardinals warm-up jacket, dating from the years 1945-1951, that, ideally, has been signed by the greatest player in Cardinals history: Stan Musial. The red wool jacket features an embroidered patch, picturing the club's distinctive "Bird on Bat" logo, on the left breast. Navy trim adorns the collar, cuffs, and waist. A "Rawlings" label appears on the interior right tail as does an adjacent "42" size tag. The Rawlings label dates to the years 1945-1951, thus dating the jacket. Stan Musial has signed the jacket in blue marker (grading "9") along the interior collar. Despite the fact that Musial has signed the jacket, and the oldtime collector who consigned the jacket was a serious Musial collector (the 1953 Musial jersey in this auction is from the same collection), there is no accompanying documentation indicating that this jacket was his and that he wore it during his playing days. Unfortunately, many jacket styles, including this one, do not provide specific player identification. The jacket is completely original, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear throughout including two tiny holes in the collar trim. This is an exceptional 1940s era Cardinals team jacket and one that remains in phenomenal condition given its age and former use. All of the five buttons are original to the garment and there is no sign of any staining or major tears which are commonly found in vintage team jackets from the era. Major League team jackets are much scarcer than jerseys and this is an extremely desirable example from one of baseball's most storied franchises. Graded "Authentic" by MEARS. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000+. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
