1968 Lew Krausse Oakland A's Game-Used Alternate Jersey - First Year In Oakland - One Year Style

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $940.00

Addendum: In the text of the print catalog, the MEARS grade is listed as A10. This is not correct. The correct grade is A9.5 (one-half point has been deducted due to a stain, see below).

One-year-style Oakland A's alternate jersey worn by pitcher Lew Krausse during the club's first season in Oakland. Graded A10 by MEARS. The gold flannel vest-style jersey features the team name "Oakland" embroidered in green and white across the front. The number "20" is appliquéd on the reverse in green on white tackle twill. Situated on the left front tail are a "McAuliffe" label, a "68" year tag, and a "44" size tag. Original and unaltered, the jersey displays moderate wear. This jersey dates from the team's first year in Oakland and the rare one-year style reflects the varying combination of bright colors introduced by owner Charles Finley in 1963. All three of the team's jerseys in 1968 (home, road, and alternate) displayed the city name on the front. Apparently the style did not suit Finley, who always seemed to be involved in matters that other owners did not feel the need to address, and the following season he replaced "Oakland" with the more familiar "A." It would be more than twenty years before the club once again placed the city name "Oakland" on one of its jerseys. Lew Krausse compiled a 10-11 record with a 3.11 ERA in 1968. He eventually retired in 1974 with a lifetime mark of 68-91. Graded A9.5 by MEARS (Though the stian is consistent with other A10 examples, one-half point has been deducted due to the strength and positioning of the stain at the bottom front). This is one of six 1968 Oakland A's jerseys listed in the MEARS census. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticator David Bushing. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$1,500. SOLD FOR $940.00
