1986 Keith Hernandez New York Mets Road Jersey

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $4,406.25

Outstanding New York Mets road jersey worn by Keith Hernandez during the club's World Championship season of 1986. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. This is one of only two authentic 1986 New York Mets jerseys listed in the MEARS population report (both are A10) and the only road example. It is also only the fourth Keith Hernandez jersey for all years listed in the entire MEARS population report. The gray knit jersey is lettered "Mets" across the front and features the number "17" on the left breast and reverse. "Hernandez" is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in blue on orange tackle twill. A New York Mets 25th Anniversary patch appears on the left sleeve. A "Goodman & Sons 42" label is located on the left front tail (interesting note: 1986 was the only season during the 1980s that Goodman provided uniforms to the Mets). The jersey is completely original, with no alterations, and displays moderate wear. Graded A10 by MEARS. Keith Hernandez was one of the key members of the 1986 World Champion New York Mets. Widely regarded as the best fielding first baseman of his era (he won eleven consecutive Gold Glove Awards), Hernandez was also an outstanding hitter and batted over .300 six times during his seventeen-year career, including a League-leading .344 in 1979. Hernandez enjoyed another fine season in 1986, batting .310 with 13 home runs and 83 RBI in helping to lead the Mets to their first World Championship in seventeen years. He finished his career with 2,182 hits and a .296 lifetime average. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $4,406.25
