1926-1934 Pie Traynor Spalding Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $7,050.00
Pie Traynor Spalding model "No. 200" bat (Player's Autograph series) dating from the 1926-1934 manufacturing period. Graded A8 by MEARS, only one graded at this level, with none graded higher. The bat features the name "Harold 'Pie' Traynor" stamped on the barrel in script letters. The stamped notation "Hand Turned," which is the key feature of all Spalding pro model bats manufactured between the years 1926 and 1934, appears above the famous "Ball & Diamond" center brand. Two small diamonds appear to the left and right of the center brand. The one on the left features the stamped letters "P.F." (Pro Finish), while the one on the right bears the stamped notation "Oil Temp." The bat displays heavy use including surface marks, rack and cleat marks, and grain swelling. Pie Traynor is universally recognized as the finest fielding third baseman of his era. His legendary reputation in the field, however, sometimes overshadows his extraordinary batting record. Traynor batted over .300 on ten separate occasions, including a career high .366 in 1930, and retired in 1937 with a .320 lifetime average. He was elected to the Hall of Fame in 1948. Length: 34.75 inches. Weight: 37.8 ounces. Graded A8 by MEARS (5 point base grade with 3 points added for use). It is interesting to note that this is the very same style bat as the only other Traynor game bat we have ever offered (a lower-graded example which originated directly from Traynor's family and appeared as Lot 1310 in REA May 2007). This is only the third Pie Traynor bat ever graded by MEARS and it ranks as the highest-graded example. This bat has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$3,000+. SOLD FOR $7,050.00
