1998 Alex Rodriguez Signed Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,645.00
Alex Rodriguez Louisville Slugger signature model "C271" bat dating from the 1998 season. The black, cupped-end bat displays light use including a few ball marks, rack marks, and pine tar on the handle. Rodriguez has attested to the bat's provenance by inscribing it in silver paint pen (grading "10") on the sweet spot of the barrel, "Alex Rodriguez - Game Used." Although factory markings date this bat to the 1997-1998 manufacturing period, factory records show that the first shipment of this style black, cupped-end "C271" model bats to Rodriguez did not occur until 12/26/97. Therefore, this bat could not have been used during the 1997 season and has been dated to 1998. Rodriguez enjoyed a banner year with the Mariners in 1998, finishing the season with 42 home runs, 124 RBI, and a .310 batting average. It also marked the first of six consecutive seasons in which Rodriguez hit forty or more home runs, a feat surpassed only by Babe Ruth. In 2007 Rodriguez became the youngest player to reach the historic 500 home run plateau and, barring injury, he seems destined to challenge Barry Bonds' all-time home run record. Length: 34 inches. Weight: 30 ounces. Graded A8 by MEARS (base grade of 5, with 1 point added for use and 2 points added for the inscription). LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,645.00
