2003 Alex Rodriguez Pro-Model Bat
Starting Bid - $200.00 , Sold For - $470.00
Alex Rodriguez Rawlings block letter (full name) model "460B" bat dating from 2003, his final season with the Texas Rangers. The bat displays heavy use on each side and the back of the barrel, including ball marks, deeply embedded stitch marks, and pine tar on the handle. Rodriguez's uniform number ("3") is written on the knob in black marker. As MEARS notes in its accompanying LOA, MEARS has no photos documenting Rodriguez using blond Rawlings bats during the regular season. The only bats that photo records document Rodriguez using in games are black Rawlings bats, Old Hickory bats, and blond Louisville Slugger bats. While the possibility exists that Rodriguez might have used this bat in a game, it is more likely that it was used strictly for batting practice (many players use certain bats only for batting practice). Rodriguez won the first of his three MVP Awards in 2003, finishing the year with 47 home runs, 118 RBI, and a .298 lifetime average. Already the youngest player ever to reach the 500 home-run plateau, Rodriguez may someday supplant Barry Bonds as baseball's all-time home-run king. Length: 33.75 inches. Weight: 31.1 ounces. Graded A8 by MEARS (5 point base grade, plus 3 points for use, and 1 point for the number on the knob, but minus 1 point for the lack of any photo records showing him using this style bat in a game). LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $200. Estimate $400/$600. SOLD FOR $470.00
