1964 Rocky Marciano Signed Check

Starting Bid - $300.00 , Sold For - $1,057.50

Bank check, dated November 4, 1964, signed by former heavyweight boxing champion Rocky Marciano. The check, drawn on the American National Bank & Trust Co., is made out to “Mac Nabs” in the amount of $200 and has been flawlessly signed “Rocky Marciano” in blue ink (grading “10”) along the base. Rocky Marciano is the only heavyweight-boxing champion in history to retire undefeated. Unfortunately, his untimely death in 1969, one day before his forty-sixth birthday, has resulted in the scarcity of his signature examples today. The very few checks from the Marciano estate that have surfaced in recent years have quickly disappeared into collections and are not readily available in the marketplace. The check (6 x 2.75 inches) displays a normal vertical check fold, as well as standard bank cancellation stamps, and is otherwise in Near Mint condition. A large 11 x 14-inch non-vintage photo of Marciano posing in the ring accompanies the check and would be ideal for display together with it. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $300. Estimate $500/$1,000. SOLD FOR $1,057.50
