1967-1968 John Barnhill San Diego Rockets Game-Used Home Jersey (Inaugural Season)
Starting Bid - $800.00 , Sold For - $940.00
San Diego Rockets road jersey worn by guard John “Rabbit” Barnhill during the club’s inaugural 1967-1968 season. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. The green dureen jersey is lettered “San Diego” across the front and features the number “30” on the front and reverse. “Barnhill” is lettered on the reverse above the number. All letters and numerals are appliquéd in white on gold tackle twill. Located on the left front tail is a “Sand-Knit/Bill Smith Sporting Goods” label and adjacent “42” size tag. The jersey can be precisely dated to the 1967-1968 season due to the fact that Barnhill only played with the club for that one year. Original and unaltered, the jersey displays moderate wear. The San Diego Rockets joined the NBA in 1967 and the franchise remained in San Diego for four seasons before relocating to Houston. Barnhill appeared in 75 games with the club in 1967/1968, averaging 9.9 points per game and 3.5 assists per game. Graded A10 by MEARS. This is the only San Diego Rockets jersey listed in the MEARS population report. An extremely rare and historically significant NBA jersey dating from the birth of the Rocket’s franchise. This jersey has been consigned to this auction directly from the personal collection/inventory of world-renowned bat and jersey authenticators David Bushing and/or Troy Kinunen. LOA from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS. Reserve $800. Estimate $1,500/$2,500. SOLD FOR $940.00
