2001-2002 Michael Jordan Washington Wizards Signed Game-Used Uniform (Jersey and Shorts)
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $8,812.50
Washington Wizards home uniform worn by Michael Jordan in a game against the Atlanta Hawks at the MCI Center on December 28, 2002, signed by Jordan on the reverse of the jersey. Graded a perfect A10 by MEARS. Strictly in terms of documented provenance, this is undoubtedly the finest Michael Jordan game-used uniform in existence. Not only is the uniform accompanied by a signed LOA from the team, but the signing of the jersey was done under the auspices of Upper Deck and comes with a COA and corresponding hologram sticker attesting to that fact. Additionally, the jersey is accompanied by a photo, acquired from Getty Images, picturing Jordan wearing this very uniform during the game against the Hawks on December 28, 2002. The white mesh jersey is lettered "Wizards" across the front and features the number "23" on both the front and reverse. "Jordan" is lettered on the reverse directly above the number. All letters and numerals are appliqued in tricolor blue/brown/black tackle twill, with the exception of Jordan's name (blue on brown tackle twill). Situated on the left front tail are a "Nike 50" label and an adjacent flag tag reading "Length +4." Jordan has signed the jersey in silver paint pen (grading "10") on the reverse numeral "2." The matching white mesh shorts display team logos on both the right and left legs. A "Nike 42" label appears in the waistband that also bears Jordan's uniform number ("23") written upon it in black marker. An adjacent flag tag reads "Inseam +2." Both the jersey and shorts are completely original, with no alterations, and display light wear throughout. Also included with the uniform, and obtained at the same time as the jersey, are a pair of gray Nike basketball sneakers (size 13.5) that were specially produced for Jordan. Jordan's number "23" is embroidered on the back and it appears that the soles have been removed (Jordan normally had custom soles put on his shoes). While the team LOA doesn't specifically mention these shoes, they were obtained together with the uniform and the accompanying game photo of Jordan pictures him wearing identical sneakers. Also, the fact that such sneakers were not available for retail sale, and were produced exclusively for use by Jordan, makes us confidant (though there is no way for us to be certain) that these shoes are exactly what they appear to be: the pair of sneakers worn by Jordan during the Wizards game on December 28, 2002. The letter of authenticity, from Washington Sports & Entertainment, reads "Congratulations from Washington Sports & Entertainment - You have just purchased an authentic game worn jersey (Upper Deck Authenticated Certificate Number SHO-00349) from the Washington Sports & Entertainment Collection. Washington Sports & Entertainment guarantees that this item was personally signed and worn on December 28, 2002, by Michael Jordan." This is a special Jordan jersey in all respects. Jordan jerseys in particular, not to mention Jordan signatures, have always been problematic for collectors due to the numerous forgeries plaguing the hobby. This jersey is as "problem free" as one can get and we have never handled another Jordan jersey accompanied by such remarkable "rock solid" provenance. LOAs from Dave Bushing & Troy Kinunen/MEARS and James Spence/JSA. Total: 3 items (jersey, shorts, and pair of sneakers). Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000/$4,000+. SOLD FOR $8,812.50
