1991 Tiger Woods Signed High School Yearbook
Starting Bid - $1,000.00 , Sold For - $1,410.00
Celebrity high school yearbooks have become an extremely popular area of collecting in recent years, and, because they were generally limited in number (the distribution normally dictated by the size of the senior class) they also tend to be quite rare. Offered here is a 1991 Western High School yearbook, dating from Tiger Woods’ freshman year, that was signed by Woods at a later date. Although just a freshman, Woods was already a nationally ranked amateur in 1991 and is pictured three times on the two-page spread dedicated to the school’s varsity golf team. One image pictures him posing with the entire team, while the other two shots capture him on the links. A fourth photo of Woods appears among the individual portraits of the freshman class. Woods has signed the book in black Sharpie (grading “10”) upon the group photo of the golf team. This book was originally purchased at a charity auction in 2000 and is accompanied by an LOA from David Gardner, the Director of Events for Catholic Charities of the Archdiocese of Chicago, in which he details its history. He writes in part: “I worked closely with Nick Mokelke, the General Manager at Cog Hill Golf and Country Club in Lemont, Illinois, to coordinate the Golf Invitational, a fundraiser for Catholic Charities held on August 17, 2000. We offered a Tiger Woods High School freshman yearbook for auction at the Golf Invitational. Nick Mokelke had Tiger Woods autograph this yearbook at the practice rounds of the Western Open held at Cog Hill in July, 2000.” Tiger Woods signed high school yearbooks are extremely rare, and this is the first example we have seen. The book is in Near Mint condition and displays only the Woods signature (as opposed to numerous additional student signatures). From the Peter Maszak Collection. LOA from James Spence/JSA. Reserve $1,000. Estimate $2,000+. SOLD FOR $1,410.00
