1938 R69 Gum, Inc. "Horrors of War" PSA NM-MT 8 Collection (13 cards including 7 high #s)

Starting Bid - $500.00 , Sold For - $5,287.50

Collection of thirteen ultra-high grade 1938 "Horrors of War" cards. Issued by Gum, Inc., "Horrors of War" is perhaps the single most famous non-sport card-set ever issued. The exceptionally colorful graphics and politically charged descriptions on their reverses also made this series perhaps the most controversial set ever issued. Offered is a collection of thirteen cards, including seven of the rare high-number series cards (#193-288), each graded and encapsulated NM-MT 8 by PSA: Low Series: #85, 94, 110, 111, 113, and 179. High Series: #207, 210, 221, 224, 230, 256, and 272. Each of the thirteen cards have ten or fewer examples graded at this level, with five cards having only one graded higher. This is an extraordinarily high grade collection, with each card worthy of inclusion in the world's finest "Horrors of War" set or nonsport collection. SMR has just begun listing values for a few of the most classic nonsport sets each month. These cards list for $2,125 in SMR, but if the premium over SMR for 1930s nonsport cards in this extremely high grade is even a modest fraction of that of 1930s baseball cards, the market value for this lot may be significantly higher. Total 13 cards. Reserve $500. Estimate $1,000/$2,000. SOLD FOR $5,287.50
